The song was divinely inspired through a part of the Bible, 2 Corrinthians 5:17 which says "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a New Creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new".
It is to let you know that, since Christ became your Lord and savior, you've got no more past(negatives) but renewed into brighter days daily.
